Do Dispatchers know where you are when you dial 911?

When you dial 911 from a cell phone, the Dispatcher cannot see your precise location. Instead, Dispatch Centers must request this information from your wireless carrier. This location information comes from a cell tower, which may show you miles away from your actual location. 

Why does the Dispatcher ask so many questions?

Emergency Dispatchers are trained to follow protocols with a predetermined set of questions. Based on the answers you provide, the Dispatcher will be able to determine the best response and possible pre-arrival care/instructions for you.  

Why do Dispatchers use EMD?

The Bayside Communications Center utilizes Emergency Medical Dispatching protocols to better serve you. The protocols guide Dispatchers through a series of questions which assist in determining the best response while also providing you with pre-arrival medical instructions if they are needed. 

What is Emergency Medical Dispatching?

Emergency Medical Dispatching is the system of protocols and pre-arrival medical instructions provided by a Dispatcher while responders are en route.

CodeRED is an emergency notification system that allows North Shore Public Safety Departments to send emergency notifications to subscribers via email, text and phone calls.
