Culverts
Culvert Replacement Programs
The pipe located under the apron of your driveway near the road is known as a culvert. From time to time, the pipe may need to be replaced due to deterioration or to reset the grade of the pipe. The combination of the quality of the pipe and its grade ensures that stormwater can flow unimpeded and reduces the risk of flooding during rain events.
In-Network Culvert Replacement Program
During road construction projects, the Village conducts an assessment of the culverts found on that roadway. The Village will then share their findings with those property owners and inform them if culvert replacement is required, recommended, or optional.
When in conjunction with a road project, property owners are invited to participate in the In-Network Driveway Culvert Replacement Program. The cost includes removal of the old culvert pipe, installation of a new ADS plastic pipe, stone compaction, and asphalt overlay. The Village does not provide concrete overlay and, as such, does not cover the cost of or encourage concrete driveway aprons. The cost covers both the fee and submittal of the Right of Way Occupancy and Excavation Permit.
This price is only available to property owners located within road construction projects’ limits for the current year.
Out of Network Culvert Replacement Program
When a culvert is replaced outside of a road construction project, property owners can participate in the Out of Network Culvert Replacement Program. The cost to use the Village as the contractor includes removal of the old pipe, installation of new ADS plastic pipe, and stone compaction. The Out of Network Program does not include asphalt replacement. This does cover the cost and submittal of the Right of Way Occupancy and Excavation Permit.
Private Contractor
If you use your own contractor, a Right of Way Occupancy and Excavation Permit is required. The cost includes setting the grade for the culvert(s) as well as a required inspection post-installation and pre-paving. This cost is in addition to what the contractor is charging for their work.
